6 Myths About Fillers and Botox

Let’s be honest, the majority of us have considered getting filler injections or Botox. We have sagging, wrinkles, and lines here and there that we wouldn’t mind having touched up a bit. So we go online and search “Botox injections”, and before we know it we are so confused about everything that we decide to forget about it.

Botox and filler injections are wonderful tools available to us today. They bring back youthfulness and beauty to our faces and skin. But the truth of the matter is that we just don’t know much about them. Having anything done to our faces without being clear on what it is, is quite scary.

Today we are going to clear up all of the confusion surrounding Botox and injections, so that you might feel more comfortable with process as a whole.

Filler and Botox, The Truth

1. Are filler and Botox the same?

Let’s get started here. To simplify the whole process, fillers fill and Botox relaxes. Most people don’t realize that muscle movement is the root of wrinkles issues. Botox is used to relax the muscle that causes wrinkles, while fillers are  used to fill the wrinkles.

2. Botox causes us to lose expression of emotions.

This is a semi true statement. When administered in the proper manner, and in appropriate moderation, Botox looks natural and you will still have the ability to express emotions. However, angry emotion expressed by furrowing your brow will be diminished. It is important that you find a highly experienced, and well qualified doctor, as an inexperienced doctor could potentially provide you with overly dramatic results.

3. Filler are going to hurt!

Many people are under the impression that fillers are quite painful. However, when patients are asked about the pain levels on a scale of 1-10, the typical number response is a two or three. A topical numbing agent will also be applied prior to receiving the injections to minimize pain even further.

4. Botox is addictive.

Botox improves our looks and heightens our self confidence. Of course, for any person, an increased self image could become “addictive”. However, the Botox treatment in itself is not addictive whatsoever.

5. Everyone can tell when you’ve had filler injections.

This is an absolutely untrue statement. Directly after your fillers, yes you can see that you had something done. However, once you have allowed time for everything to settle down no one can put their finger on what’s different about you.

6. Botox lasts anywhere between 6 months and a year.

The truth is, Botox lasts 3 months. The reason why so many people have the misconception that it lasts longer is because their muscles have retrained themselves. It has become a habit not to furrow your brow as you would have prior to the injections.
