Reducing Obesity in Central Florida Kids

ROCKChild obesity is a large concern for many parents in Central Florida. Eating healthy and being active are the primary methods to keeping kids fit and allowing them to maintain healthy habits for the rest of their lives. That is the goal of ROCK, a regional consortium that is joining organizations with families and kids in an effort to prevent, reduce and eliminate childhood obesity and promote healthy choices.

In March, ROCK unveiled their new website, funded by a grant from the ANNIKA Foundation, an organization started by professional golfer Annika Sorenstam that teaches children the importance of having a healthy, active lifestyle. ROCKfl.org will connect Brevard, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties in an online platform. ROCK Director Shawna Kelsch was overjoyed with the support, “We are so lucky to have received the support of Annika Sorenstam and the ANNIKA Foundation, which is dedicated to helping children live healthy, active lives.”

The ROCK website will showcase family activities in the Central Florida area that include walking trails, swimming pools, golf courses and others.
