On the road to weight management, one of the most proven methods of achieving results is the reliable activity of running. This is not only good for keeping one’s weight in check, but it does wonders for the circulation as well. However, some people pay too much attention to the scale when running. This can create a problem that, on the surface, appears to make no sense.
Every one who runs (or exercises at all) might see a growth in their weight, but they take this information as an unsettling de-motivator that stops them dead in their tracks. The reason being that they have been told the act of running burns calories, and thus leads to weight loss. While this is true, they ignore the fact that running also increases weight.
Curious as to why this occurs? The answer, actually, is quite simple.
Good Weight Gain Vs. Bad Weight Gain
When keeping track of your weight, you should observe your progress under two different lights: Healthy Weight Gain, and Unhealthy Weight Gain. The two are very different forms of putting on weight, and one should always strive for the first alternative.
You see, Healthy Weight Gain includes any weight that is added to your body through the building of muscles. Activities such as running can lead to this kind of weight gain, as the physical activity is stimulating the muscles being worked. This stimulation causes the muscles to grow, and as a result causes them to add on pounds.
Unhealthy Weight Gain includes the creation and storing of fat — fat that doesn’t get burned because no physical activity is taking place. We accumulate this kind of weight by eating unhealthy foods that are high in fat or sugars, or in simply leading an inactive lifestyle.
Unhealthy Weight Gain is the enemy, and should be treated as such.
Keep Your Pace
If you find yourself “chasing the pounds” every time you go for a run, keep in mind that the weight you are gaining is more likely attributed to the muscles you are building. Just because your weight seems to have plateaued (or increased), do not become discouraged. The work you are doing is making a difference, but your scale cannot discern the reasons for your added pounds.
We suggest always visiting a weight management specialist, like those at Svelte MD. They are trained in measuring your BMI (Body Mass Index), which reveals the truth about the pounds you own. Through studying your body as a whole, not just the number attached to it, our specialists can tell how much of your weight is healthy (muscle), and how much is unhealthy (fat).
With this kind of knowledge, you can rest assured that your efforts are not in vain — and it may even spur you to step-up your routine.
In the end, the best thing to remember is that any physical activity that keeps your body fine-tuned and healthy is beneficial. Exercise such as running will cause weight gain — but in a good way. If you spend your time running but do not notice a decrease in your body-fat, we encourage you to visit Svelte MD to see how our specialists can assist you. So you’ve decided to lose Dr. Bragg’s weight management services to help you shed unsightly pounds, but you’re wondering how to keep up your own personal exercise regimen. Don’t feel bad, as this feeling hits every one who dreams of losing weight. It is affectionately referred to as “The Wall” – and hitting it can be enough to crush the strongest of spirits.
How do I get around The Wall?
What if I’m not strong enough to overcome this feeling of defeat?
How can I ease my way into an exercise routine that is fun, but ALSO rewarding?
These are all common questions, derived from millions of men and women who have struggled with the same problem you might be facing. There is good news and bad news, so let me hit you with the bad news first:
In order to lose weight, you WILL have to find the strength and dedication necessary to achieve results.
The good news, however, is there are readily available ways to do this that are, at the same time, fun and engaging. As a matter of fact, there is one method you can use to help train yourself for the long road ahead – and it can involve the whole family!
We’re talking about Wii Fit, the interactive video game peripheral from popular video game manufacturer Nintendo. This revolutionary method for helping inspire healthy choices has been helping people get in gear since it was released over a year ago. Can it help you?
What Wii Fit Can Do
While the game has become a popular fixture in households and receives rave reviews from countless sources, there is a limit to what the game can do to help you lose weight. But be warned that Wii Fit is not the miracle machine some tout it as being.
For starters, Wii Fit offers a small set of exercises that will actually provide results. These segments include a delightful run through a simulated city (think an adorable version of San Francisco) that forces you to run in place for several minutes, as well as a fairly comprehensive Yoga program. The rest of the segments within the game are, appropriately, akin to fun little diversions.
Even the most physically challenging aspects of Wii Fit come off as being mild at best, and if they do offer results it is merely due to the main purpose of Wii Fit: To keep you conscious about maintaining a routine of physical activity. Apart from that, it has very little actual benefit to warrant relying on it as your only means of exercising.
What the Wii Fit does is allow you an easy, fun way to keep track of your personal development. It rewards progress and “stickwithitness”. In doing so it helps encourage you during the time in which you are likely to hit The Wall, providing the support necessary to vault over it instead of surrendering to it.
What Wii Fit Can’t Do
As we mentioned, the Wii Fit cannot take the place of regular exercise and other physical activity. The segments and exercises contained within the game are merely for assisting in building a routine, to maintain discipline. As such, you should not expect the game to provide you with the results you desire.
Another weak link in the game is the included scale/balance board peripheral. While it is a delight to use when playing the games, it also provides an outlet for Wii Fit’s biggest drawback. You see, the scale simply measures your BMI (Body Mass Index) based upon how much pressure your standing still provides. It does not take into actual account why your BMI ranks as high (or as low) as it does.
Some people are short, but have a decent mass of muscle that accounts for their weight. Wii Fit cannot judge this, so it will always instruct you to take action that, really, won’t benefit your body type. It will also insist that any muscle gain that puts on pounds will contribute to your “getting fat” (the game does not spare any feelings when sizing players up). As such, it is imperative to use your weigh-ins from Svelte as a guide for your progress.
So, essentially, the Wii Fit is great for making physical activity a habit. That being said, it is a very poor replacement for visiting a weight management professional.

For many in Orlando, spring and early summer time are fantastic times to begin a new cardio work out. The weather is balmy, but then, the hotter weather may be problematic- training safety is a must for any cardio program for weight loss. Even slight exercise in hot weather can result in dehydration so this is an important factor to take into account in your weight loss plans, particularly if you mean to bring on some outdoor cardio into the mix. Understanding that dehydration can occur when ever someone?s fluid loss results in weight loss- 1-2 percent depending on body weight. Fluid loss of more than three percent will result usually in some of the more serious heat related illnesses.
First, it is important to know the signs of dehydration: dizziness, headache, nausea, weakness, thirst and irritability are just the main signs, and most who are following an outdoor cardio plan during the summer months can avoid this by replacing the fluid they lose while working out. Water is a very vital part of any weight loss plan, anyway, so, keeping hydrated is important for both of those reasons. Make sure that you are drinking cool but not cold beverages around 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit.? This will not only help keep hydrated but help to maintain proper electrolyte balance. Remember to drink at least fifteen to twenty ounces of water about two hours before your work out, and then about ten minutes prior to beginning, drink another six to ten ounces. If your work out lasts a while, be sure to drink about six to ten ounces every ten or fifteen minutes until your work out is over.
Heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke are all major concerns of those engaging in work outs during the summer months. Heat cramps are the least serious, mainly caused by fluid and electrolyte loss. These are sharp pains in the muscles that don?t diminish with time. Once you have heat cramps, it?s important to stop what you are doing and begin fluid replacement, cool down and get out of the sun. Heat exhaustion shows up as a rise in body temperature, followed by vomiting or nausea, dizziness and a headache. If you do not hydrate yourself, heat exhaustion can get worse, where a lack of coordination, cramps, and heavier sweating may be seen. Untreated heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke, which is a life threatening condition which will require immediate medical attention. Tiredness, weakness, strange behavior, disorientation and confusion are the initial symptoms, which may be followed by unconsciousness. Heatstroke is where the system that monitors the body?s temperature fails, sweating will stop and the skin may be warm and dry.? Coma, seizures and death can occur if this is left untreated.
Be sure that in your weight loss plans if you are working out during the day, or out of doors, you are very careful to maintain proper hydration and avoid overheating yourself. This will enable you to avoid these complications.

At some point in everyone?s lives, they may have wanted to lose weight- if you happen to be at that point right now, you have either decided that you have one of two options: eat better, or be more active. For those of you who have decided to be more active, the world of working out can be an intimidating one- so many different types of work outs out there, what do you choose? Some may want to take classes, others decide to walk, run, or even do yoga. There is really no wrong answer when it comes to exercise, however, depending on what you want to do- you may want to target specific areas to lose body fat. Many Orlando medical weight loss specialists encourage all over training, including weight training.
One of the greatest ways to impact body fat is through weight training. This doesn?t have to be as frightening as it looks and you don?t have to form a big, beefy physique. Because everyone is built differently, everyone will respond differently to beginning a weight training regimen. This custom body sculpting can be used to help you to sculpt just the body you want, as well. Lifting weights not only enables you to lose fat, but it also burns a great deal of calories. For instance, your metabolism stays up for about forty eight hours after each weight lifting session. For every pound of lean muscle you have, your body burns about fifty more calories a day, because muscle takes more energy to maintain than fat. With weight lifting, you also begin to see the results much more quickly. Losing motivation is one of the biggest causes of work out-burn out, and if you want to keep on a plan, it has to show results. If you?re changing up your work outs, throwing in a little weight training here and there, and mixing that in with your aerobic work outs you will find that this packs a powerful double punch towards your weight loss goals.
Experience or lack thereof is never an issue. With weight training, you simply have to begin. There is a wealth of information out there, online and off for this, and you don?t even need to find a personal trainer, if you?d like to get started. Simply read around and find the right fit for you and get started. It?s just that easy. Bringing weight training into a total body work out is definitely a great way to ensure that you are spot toning those hard to lose areas such as the thighs, butt, belly and more.
The best work outs for new weight trainers seeking to burn body fat, fast are:
?dumbbell squats
?Bench presses
?split squats
?single arm or clean presses
?curl to press
These are just a few examples of the ways that many people, just like yourself, are already losing weight and burning fat using weight lifting techniques. Just a couple of reps of 10-15 each and before long, you, too can begin seeing remarkable results.

In this economy, things have become increasingly hard. Many people can no longer afford to have their gym memberships and personal trainers. On top of that, a lot more people couldn’t afford to even get a piece of equipment for in their homes let alone a gym membership.
There are many ways to get out there and get your exercise on. No, you are not going to be exercising every single day. Yes, you are going to try but there are going to be days when you simply need to sit down and recover for a bit. However, it is important to make an effort to do something every day. If you live in a place that has steps you can walk or even run up and down them for twenty minutes or whatever you are comfortable with.
If it is nice outside you can go out there for a nice jog around the block. By the time you build up your strength, you may be able to actually run the blocks more than once or twice a night. There are so many ways to do this for free and still help yourself to become healthier while saving you money in other aspects of your life. The healthier you become the least likely you are going to end up in the hospital or at the doctor for some sort of injury or sickness.
Exercise also benefits insomniacs. It is important to remember that if you exhaust yourself from exercising, you really will end up having very restful sleep when you hit your? pillow at night. If that isn’t enough, it can help you become more mentally aware and alert and reduce fatigue. What is better than being able to get all of the necessary things done during the day without having issues in regards to fatigue?
If you want a great work out that covers everything you will need to know about aerobic and anaerobic. This is a bit of a symbiotic relationship that helps you get all of the benefits necessary to become healthier and happier. When it comes to aerobics that typically means that you might go for a brisk walk or even going jogging or swimming. Stair climbing is even considered aerobic. This gets your metabolism to increase and your energy levels will absolutely sky rocket when it is necessary.? You will also add a level of prevention to cardiovascular issues amongst other diseases that can come from being overweight or out of shape.
Needing to stay in shape and take care of your body is a universal thing amongst everyone. We all need balanced, healthy meals and we all need to take the time out of our days to exercise. Even if you are just exercising for a brief amount of time such as twenty minutes that is fine. Any little bit helps and there will come a time in your life after a while that you are going to wonder why you hadn’t started sooner. You will end up happier and healthier than before.
