As natives to the Florida area, we here at Florida Vein Care understand just how important it is to protect your skin from the elements. Whether you live here in the sunshine state, or you’re just visiting for a short time, it is equally as imperative that you take precautionary measures against skin damage.
Skin Care Tips From the Vein Doctor
Drying, peeling, burning, breakouts, these are all the negative side effects of neglecting your skin. So how do you prevent these painful and itchy problems? There are a few, simple methods for properly caring for your skin the Florida.
Sunscreen: The intense Florida sun can start affecting your skin within minutes of exposure. In order to prevent burning it is important to cover your skin, head to toe, in sunscreen before going outdoors. Many times when it seems to be a cloudy day, people have the misconception that they don’t need to use sunscreen. This is not true. You should still be protecting your skin regardless of the cloudy sky. If you plan on taking a dip, be sure to use water proof sunscreen so it doesn’t wash off in the water!
Check your cleanser: Many people don’t know this, but some facial cleansers contain an ingredient that increases your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Read the back of your cleanser bottle to find out if it contains these types of ingredients. If it does you may want to avoid using it during your stay in Florida. Use extra sunscreen because your skin will likely be more prone to sunburn for a while after use.
Avoid heavy makeup: The high temperatures in Florida cause the pores in your skin to be much more open. This makes it much easier for dirt and other impurities to clog your pores and cause breakouts. If you usually wear your makeup a little heavier, you may want to consider going lighter while you’re visiting Florida in order to avoid acne issues.
Rinse after you swim: As you already know, the ocean has a high salinity level. While you are in the water, the salt it building up on your skin and in your hair. Directly after swimming, it is wise to rinse off in a fresh water shower. Most beaches have areas where you can rinse off the salt and sand before getting into your car or walking back to your hotel. This will save your skin from getting too dried out and ashy.
Moisturize: As much as we love the salt water and the sand, we do have to protect our skin against them. The fine sand quickly depletes your skin or moisture, as does the salt. Make sure you are moisturizing day and night to prevent your skin from getting flaky and peeling.
