Summertime weddings in Florida are a dream come true. You have the sand, the sun, the ocean, and that beautiful sunset behind you. As the date of your wedding nears, there are certain things that you want to have in order. We’re not talking about the decorations, or the DJ, or your family members flying in from out of town. We are talking about you!
Pretty soon we’ll be leaving 2011 behind. 2012 is on its way, and most of us would like to ring in the New Year in as best shape as possible. Whether you are planning ahead for 2013, or you’d simply like to remain thin and healthy for the upcoming year, we’ve got a list of the Top 10 Ways to Stay Svelte in 2012!
10) CARDIO, CARDIO, CARDIO!
As most any one can tell you, Cardio is some of the best exercise our bodies can receive. Whether you’re planning on riding your bike instead of driving, walking around the neighborhood after dinner, or simply running for a few minutes on a treadmill, Cardio is the quickest means of keeping your weight in check.
09) HAVE POOL, WILL SHED POUNDS
Swimming pools aren’t just for kids in the summer time. If you want to find a great workout, look no further than your own back yard (or Recreation Center). Swimming pools provide for a myriad of ways to work out our bodies, from exercising the muscles in our arms and legs to providing one of the most intense cardiovascular work-outs around. Better yet, swimming is fun — what better way to inspire weight loss?
08) FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
If you are looking for a way to get the whole family whipped into shape, look no further than… video games? While it might sound unrealistic, many video games are being developed that make fitness fun. Perhaps you won’t lose weight strictly by playing the copious games out there, you will have fun while training yourself to engage in more physical activities. With titles like Zumba, Wii Fit, and Dance Central families with any video game console can learn fun, addictive exercises for the whole family.
07) DIET
So you’re already exercising pretty regularly, but you don’t notice any changes? More than likely you should look to what you’re eating. Part of weight management is reconciling how much of something you eat, but many people often forget that what you eat matters most. The key to a healthy diet is to balance your diet, and to moderate your habits before they get out of control. You don’t have to stop eating Cupcakes altogether — just eat fewer, and less often.
06) ABSTAIN FROM SODA
Sodas are some of the worst things you can put into your body. Never mind what the sugar and carbonation do to our teeth, sodas are also the largest culprit when it comes to contributing to our empty fats and sugars. As the fat in sodas serves no health benefit it gets left in our stomachs — one of the most complained about problem areas. If you have a spare tire you are desperate to get rid of, put down the soda and have some water instead.
05) DEVELOP PATIENCE: NIX FAST FOOD
This is so well known I shouldn’t even have to mention it, but excuses always nullify this common-sense tip. I know most of us have jobs that make it difficult — or near impossible — to prepare healthy meals throughout the day. I doubt that this will change in 2012, so let’s start making a difference ourselves. Pre-prepare meals before heading off to work. This can be done each night before bed, and can consist of simple meals using simple ingredients.
4) PRACTICE PERSISTENCE
Weight loss relies on persistence. You won’t get into shape over night, so stop expecting too much too soon. If you’re not seeing results as quickly as you’d like, don’t give up. Maybe even step up your routine slightly, and see if that makes any difference. Whatever you do, stay persistent.
3) JOIN A PROGRAM AT A GYM
Some of the best results are being achieved by people who join classes at their local gyms, or recreation centers. Programs such as Yoga, Zumba, and even dance classes are sweeping the nation in 2011. Given their popularity, as well as their results, expect this trend to grow in 2012.
2) DEVELOP A REGULAR ROUTINE
Many of us exercise, but only when we can find the time. As hectic as life can be, it would do us well to create a regular exercise routine that we can stick with. Even if it’s something as simple as doing crunches while watching your favorite television show — whatever it is, stick with it.

It’s almost time for Thanksgiving, which means most of us will be facing the pressure of keeping the pounds off while still enjoying our country’s second-most important holiday. If you’re like many of the patients we treat, your first reaction is probably to scramble to the nearest supplement retailer to invest in some diet pills. But, do these pills actually help people lose weight?
KEEPING THE POUNDS OFF
The most important question to ask is not whether diet pills will provide results; of course most do. The question should instead be: What happens once you stop taking the pills?
When it comes to losing weight, there’s more to it than simply burning through your fat using some pill. Keeping the weight off is much more important, and is a lot more difficult. You see, many diet pills do little more than diminish your appetite while speeding up your metabolism. While this does yield results it also causes your body to kick into overdrive once you stop taking the weight capsules. Your appetite will return with a vengeance, and your metabolism will normalize long before you know. This will result in expedited weight gain, and you’ll find yourself back at square one.
WHAT TO TURN TO INSTEAD
Let’s not beat around the bush: There is practically nothing that a pill can do for you that you cannot do better yourself. To achieve lasting, healthy weight loss it is important to remember that the responsibility rests squarely on your shoulders. To keep a desired build you have to exercise, watch what you eat (and how much of it), and beat the psychological barriers that want to stop you from succeeding.
At Svelte MD, we are specialized in helping our patients with every facet of maintaining weight loss. Our levels of success are due in part to the fact that we know what to look for in our patients, as well as how to counter any issues they might have.
WHY IS SVELTE MD THE RIGHT CHOICE?
Our weight control specialists do more for our patients than dish out pills. While weight loss medication is a part of our program, we go several steps further by tackling the bigger issues behind your weight problem. We take regular BMI (Body Mass Index) measurements, around which we build a regimen that is basically unique to each patient we see. We prescribe the aforementioned medication, as well as diet plans that fit each situation we face.
Better than anything else we provide, we also offer solid, medically sound advice on changing the poor lifestyle choices that lead to the issue of weight gain from the very start.
If you’re thinking of resorting to pills to stave off weight gain, reconsider. Navigate to our homepage and register for your first consultation at Svelte MD today.
So you’ve decided to lose Dr. Bragg’s weight management services to help you shed unsightly pounds, but you’re wondering how to keep up your own personal exercise regimen. Don’t feel bad, as this feeling hits every one who dreams of losing weight. It is affectionately referred to as “The Wall” – and hitting it can be enough to crush the strongest of spirits.
How do I get around The Wall?
What if I’m not strong enough to overcome this feeling of defeat?
How can I ease my way into an exercise routine that is fun, but ALSO rewarding?
These are all common questions, derived from millions of men and women who have struggled with the same problem you might be facing. There is good news and bad news, so let me hit you with the bad news first:
In order to lose weight, you WILL have to find the strength and dedication necessary to achieve results.
The good news, however, is there are readily available ways to do this that are, at the same time, fun and engaging. As a matter of fact, there is one method you can use to help train yourself for the long road ahead – and it can involve the whole family!
We’re talking about Wii Fit, the interactive video game peripheral from popular video game manufacturer Nintendo. This revolutionary method for helping inspire healthy choices has been helping people get in gear since it was released over a year ago. Can it help you?
What Wii Fit Can Do
While the game has become a popular fixture in households and receives rave reviews from countless sources, there is a limit to what the game can do to help you lose weight. But be warned that Wii Fit is not the miracle machine some tout it as being.
For starters, Wii Fit offers a small set of exercises that will actually provide results. These segments include a delightful run through a simulated city (think an adorable version of San Francisco) that forces you to run in place for several minutes, as well as a fairly comprehensive Yoga program. The rest of the segments within the game are, appropriately, akin to fun little diversions.
Even the most physically challenging aspects of Wii Fit come off as being mild at best, and if they do offer results it is merely due to the main purpose of Wii Fit: To keep you conscious about maintaining a routine of physical activity. Apart from that, it has very little actual benefit to warrant relying on it as your only means of exercising.
What the Wii Fit does is allow you an easy, fun way to keep track of your personal development. It rewards progress and “stickwithitness”. In doing so it helps encourage you during the time in which you are likely to hit The Wall, providing the support necessary to vault over it instead of surrendering to it.
What Wii Fit Can’t Do
As we mentioned, the Wii Fit cannot take the place of regular exercise and other physical activity. The segments and exercises contained within the game are merely for assisting in building a routine, to maintain discipline. As such, you should not expect the game to provide you with the results you desire.
Another weak link in the game is the included scale/balance board peripheral. While it is a delight to use when playing the games, it also provides an outlet for Wii Fit’s biggest drawback. You see, the scale simply measures your BMI (Body Mass Index) based upon how much pressure your standing still provides. It does not take into actual account why your BMI ranks as high (or as low) as it does.
Some people are short, but have a decent mass of muscle that accounts for their weight. Wii Fit cannot judge this, so it will always instruct you to take action that, really, won’t benefit your body type. It will also insist that any muscle gain that puts on pounds will contribute to your “getting fat” (the game does not spare any feelings when sizing players up). As such, it is imperative to use your weigh-ins from Svelte as a guide for your progress.
So, essentially, the Wii Fit is great for making physical activity a habit. That being said, it is a very poor replacement for visiting a weight management professional.

In the realm of weight management specialists, Bariatric Doctors are men and women who focus on the surgical aspect and methods connected with weight loss. They tend to shy away from patients suffering only from moderate obesity, as that can be resolved more easily by exercise, eating healthy, and taking mild medication. As such, they more often provide their services to patients with heavy to extreme obesity.
The Services Bariatric Doctors Provide
Given the nature of their field, bariatric doctors offer surgical solutions for curing extreme obesity. The most common bariatric surgery is the Lap Band procedure. During this time, a bariatric surgeon makes an incision along the patient’s abdomen, through which they insert a “lap band” around the upper portion of the stomach. This causes patients to become fuller faster, as the band creates a “smaller” stomach that can hold much less food than an average stomach. This technique is great for long-term weight loss, as it forces the patient to eat less.
Other surgeries that bariatric doctors perform include:
Biliopancreatic diversion (BPD): Much like the lap-band procedure, this involves surgical means of making a smaller stomach out of a normal stomach. Where it differs is in its use of a tube that connects the intestines with the new, smaller stomach, bypassing the larger “unused” stomach and increasing absorption of nutrients from foods. Gallstones can be a common side effect of this procedure, so the bariatric doctor will likely prescribe pills or actually remove the gallbladder during BPD.
Endoluminal Sleeve: During this procedure, the surgeon places a 10 cm long impermeable sleeve into a patient’s intestine in order to block absorption of food in the duodenum and upper jejunum. It was originally tested on rats, and led to results showing that they ate 30% less food and lost 20% more weight than rats who weren’t given the treatment. In humans, it has been discovered that patients in the Netherlands showed a decrease of 5.5 BMI points in 3 months.
Why Pick a Bariatric Doctor?
Bariatric Doctors are great tools to be used by any one with severe obesity that might not otherwise be remedied through a change in diet or exercise. They are the doctors who handle patients that are at an extremely high risk for more severe health issues, most notably heart dysfunctions due to their drastic obesity.
If you are not considered to be at such a high risk, you would more than likely benefit the services of a general weight management specialist — be it a nutrition, or general practice doctor.
It is an important decision to dedicate yourself to losing weight, but how does one begin? It’s true that starting the journey of managing one’s weight can be a difficult task, and one of the most effective ways to get that little push is to visit a weight loss clinic. But, with all of the choices in Orlando how does one know where to begin?
While it’s true that there are numerous weight loss clinics in Orlando, there are few that offer the quality — but more importantly, healthy — programs offered at Svelte MD. Implementing a proprietary regimen of weight management injections along with dietary plans, counseling, and supplements, Svelte MD is far and above other clinics whose methods may offer results, but are much less healthy. But what do we mean by “less healthy”?
Pill Dispensaries
Many weight loss clinics rely upon the same method for their “programs”: A reliance on popping pills. While it is true that Svelte MD’s program incorporates appetite medication, it is an FDA approved prescription that makes use of all natural ingredients in order to safely curb your appetite — and it is also used in conjunction with other tools. Many clinics simply offer patients prescriptions for pills that cause a massive decrease in appetite, and may cause your body to experience unpleasant side effects as a result.
To make matters worse, these clinics often charge outrages visitation fees for what amounts to a quick weigh-in and another couple pills. This proves ineffectual as it takes more than pills to produce long-lasting, healthy weight loss.
Svelte’s Program
While appetite is prescribed by the licensed physicians at Svelte, patients are also privy to resources some other weight loss clinics don’t provide. For starters patients are given a weekly injection (unique to Svelte MD) of all natural vitamins and amino acids, which causes insulin levels to drop. This results in fat being burned before sugars, and provides for noticeable results that won’t force the body to crash.
Along with the injections, diet plans are issued by the physician. These are low-calorie foods and meals, and can be tailored to the patient’s lifestyle. Whether one is a vegetarian, diabetic, or enjoys an otherwise typical diet, Svelte MD has a plan to fit every patient’s needs.
A Sense of Community
Svelte has long been a participator in the community, often sponsoring events such as local sports games, or the 2011 Southern Women’s Show. This falls in line with Dr. Bragg’s belief that we are a community, every man, woman and business, and it is every one’s job to help it thrive. This sense of community carries over into doctor/patient interaction.
Ask any patient who has ever visited Svelte MD, and you’ll find that not a one of them has ever felt like “just a patient”. With the courteous staff employed at Svelte, patients know that they will be treated like a member of the family.
If you’re tired of feeling like a customer, not a patient, and would like to enroll in a healthy weight management program that won’t put your health at risk, you owe it to yourself to come into Svelte MD today. Simply fill out the form on our homepage to receive a consultation today!
Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, and food. The extravagant meals cause joy and anticipation for most people; however, for many of us it elicits fear and dread. How can those of us wrestling with weight management issues enjoy our Thanksgiving meals without feeling guilty?
What Can Svelte Do To Help?
One of the biggest pitfalls concerning Thanksgiving is avoiding overindulgence. It’s hard to look at the spread of seasonal foods and not overeat, especially when your friends and family surround you. After all, you want to have a good time and take part in the festivities.
At Svelte, we prescribe you appetite medication that helps you eat less, as well as help you to feel satisfied sooner. This way, you can still enjoy Thanksgiving dinner without overindulging. You’ll eat just enough to make you full, and not a morsel more.
Rely Upon Friends’ and Family’s Support
However, if you have not yet signed up for our program there is one extremely useful tool that Thanksgiving provides that can be taken advantage of: Your family and friends. Before sitting down for your meal, make sure to let every one know that you are trying to control your weight. Inform them that you are extremely dedicated, and for them to help out in any way they can.
As loved ones, your family and friends will support you 100% on your journey. You can count on them to make sure you do not overeat, or that you maintain a healthy regimen by cutting out dessert, as well as help you monitor your portions. Family is the best resource we have so use it.
Prepare Smarter Meals
While Thanksgiving is known for its heavy portions and rich foods, if you’re trying to manage your weight it is important to take personal steps toward success. Possibly the best step to take would be to research and prepare a healthy meal for the holiday. Break convention by introducing healthy, low-calorie dishes using some of the same seasonal ingredients.
For instance, instead of preparing a whole turkey, prepare just a simple Turkey Breast. Slice it thinly so that there is plenty to share, but also allows for the portions to remain small and reasonable. Don’t use stuffing, as it’s filled mostly with carbs, and prepare a more health-conscious dessert like baked apples with cinnamon instead of Pumpkin Pie.
With some ingenuity and a little research, you’ll manage to make delicious yet light Thanksgiving dishes that will please every one. Best yet, you don’t have to worry about eating too much.
If you’re concerned about gaining too much weight after Thanksgiving, try us out. Simply fill out the form on our homepage to receive a consultation today!
